Sunday school Singing Competition

The Sunday school Inter House Gospel Singing Competition was held on the 31st of May, 2009 at the Sunday school hall and it was keenly contested by the houses.

The competition format was choir signing in two categories, Western and Swadeshiya.

The competition was judged by Mr. C L Fonseka, veteran lyricist, music director and singer; Mr. Merrill Fernando, veteran singer of Fernando Trio and Amigos Romantica fame; and our very own star Sureshini Wanigasuriya who has been singing from her school days with bands like Golden Chimes and Experiments.

The groups were judged on their performance in areas of Pitch, Presentation, Expression, Balancing of Harmony and Rhythm.

The competition was very closely contested and the Western category was won by Olive house followed by Cynai and Hermen respectively, while the Swadeshiya Category was won by Herman house followed by Cynai and Olive.

The overall champions were Herman house, runners up being Olive house and 2nd Runners up being Cynai house.

The judges were delighted and commented on the high standards achieved within a short timeframe of practices. They also were amazed at the abundance of talent among our children.

The houses were ably handled by their respective house captains Herman – Praveen Dissanayake and Dileepa Perera; Olive House – Indika Lakshan and Shenya Peiris; and Cynai House – Sandharu Ferdinando and Nishanka Fernando.

The house captains were well supported by the Sunday school prefects Mevan Peiris, Dileepa Perera, Dhakshina Jayasekara and Mayumi Silva within their respective houses.

The event was organized by the Teachers in Charge of Houses, Prakash Peiris and Preethi De Mel, supported by the Sunday school secretaries Susila De Silva and Dinka Peiris.
